The Centurion’s Faith Example (Matt. 8:5-13, Luke 7:1-10)
- A Roman centurion demonstrated great faith by asking Jesus to simply speak the word to heal his servant
- He understood authority and believed Jesus’ word alone was sufficient without His physical presence
- Jesus said He had not found such great faith, even among God’s covenant people
- The servant was healed when Jesus spoke the word
Critical Warnings
Danger of Lack of Knowledge (Hosea 4:6)
- God’s people are destroyed for lack of knowledge when they reject it
- Without knowledge of Scripture and identity in Christ, believers become susceptible to the devil’s lies and deception
- Not spending time in God’s Word leaves believers open to fear and attacks that push them out of their ordained position
Need for Daily Renewal
- Believers must constantly renew their minds to God’s Word daily (Joshua 1:8)
- Distractions in the world try to take focus off God and make people forget their identity in Christ
- Remembering who we are in Christ is essential to rising above challenges
Practical Application
Essential Disciplines
- Spend time in God’s Word: Getting to know God through Scripture is foundational
- Pray consistently: Maintain constant fellowship and relationship with God
- Trust God’s Word: What God says about believers is absolute truth and takes precedence over everything else
- Recognize God’s involvement: God is more involved in daily life than people realize
Trust Through Relationship
- Trust in God grows through spending time with Him, similar to how trust grows with people we know well
- God demonstrates His love daily, through His Word and His actions in believers’ lives
- God is not distant but desires to be intimately involved, which is why He dwells inside believers
