Scripture: 1 John 1:5-7

“This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7

John also wrote in the Gospel of John chapter 8 and verse 12, “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” He minds us that the Lord is Light. John said the message they heard from the Lord and had proclaimed is God is Light. There is no darkness in Him at all. He says that if we say we know Him but walk in darkness then we are liars and do not practice truth. Our lives should be a reflection of His Light in us to shine to others. There is no way for us to be in Christ but practicing a life that is opposite of the Lord. In John 1:5 it says “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” The Light overcame the darkness in our lives. We need to stay in close fellowship with Christ.

1 John chapter 1 verse 7 it says, “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” Since Jesus has cleansed us we have fellowship with Him and walk in His Light. Jesus came and cleansed us and made us new. We do not live in the old ways, a life of darkness, a life without Jesus. In 2 Corinthians 6:14 it says “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” We cannot call ourselves believers and be in His light and still live unholy, because there is no fellowship with darkness if we are in His light.

As you go throughout your week, eliminate anything in your life that keeps you away from Jesus. His Light in you needs to shine in places that need Him. People around you should see a life that Christ has cleansed and transformed completely. Psalms 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” And we know that John said in the Gospel of John chapter 1 that the word was with God and the word was God. He lights our path so that we know where we’re going. If we walk in darkness then we are lost.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for another day, and another week. We honor You. Be with us this week and let Your light shine through us. Speak against anything that may take our eyes off of You. We will walk with You, in Your light. Continue to light our path Lord. We give you all the glory, the honor, and the praise. In Jesus’ holy and wonderful name. Amen.
